SIXTY-five students and teachers from South Wirral High School joined thousands of runners at Tesco's Race for Life run in aid of Cancer Research.
The 'Pink Laydees' team undertook the five-kilometre course at Chester Zoo wearing the names of family and friends lost to cancer pinned to their t-shirts.
Almost 2,500 women took part in the female-only race in Chester and more participants from Wirral are set to take part on Sunday in another race in Birkenhead Park.
Fifteen-year-old Katie Chetta was the first of the team over the finishing line and one of the first 50 runners overall, completing the race in just 24 minutes.
Performing arts teacher, Fern Barton, said: "It was a very emotional experience especially knowing that all the women there have had their lives affected by cancer.
"It made me realise what a worldwide problem it is. I'm so glad I did something for such a worthwhile cause and I'm really proud of all the girls for taking part and being so positive. They're real angels."
