CARLSBERG WEST CHESHIRE LEAGUE REPORT by Ray Condliffe
IN an all-West Cheshire clash, Cheshire Amateur Cup holders Poulton Vics advanced to the last four of this season's competition thanks to a 1-0 success over Wallasey rivals Ashville.
The vital goal came via a Peter McNay strike with the visitors having to battle against the odds after having a man sent-off before the interval.
Stork bowed out when going down to a 2-1 extra time defeat at the hands of Mid-Cheshire League leaders Barnton. After a sluggish first-half display Stork trailed to a Steve Davies goal, but increasing pressure was rewarded when Mike Saunders struck an equaliser.
In extra time, Barnton were awarded a disputed corner which was converted by substitute Mike Knapp.
In Division One, Nicky Dillon gave Heswall the lead as they fought out a 1-1 draw with visiting Cammell Laird. The visitors, who had Kenny Burgess as their marksman, completed the game with nine men following two red cards.
Mersey Royal had Chris McGinn and John Thompson registering in their 2-0 win over Newton that sees them remain in third place, while second placed Vauxhall (Gary Drury, Chris Li, Kevin Odger, Ben Pollard) turned a 1-0 half-time lead into a 4-2 success at Merseyside Police (Howard Finney, Glen Crowder).
Paul Murray and Richie White both notched doubles as Ashville Reserves enjoyed a 5-1 win over Shell Reserves in Division Two, while Danny Sherratt was also a two-goal man as his Cammell Laird Reserves side defeated Upton (Simon Wilkinson) 2-1.
Nick Scholes, Ken Gore and Dave Whitcombe were all on the score sheet as Heswall Reserves collected an odd goal in five win at Moreton (Phil Nugent, Lee Matthias).
Kevin Murray grabbed a hat-trick and Robbie Gerrard a brace in New Brighton's comprehensive 5-0 home win over Poulton Vics Reserves.
The first of this season's postponed Pyke Cup semi-finals has been re-arranged for Wednesday, January 19. Ashville take on Mond Rangers at Vauxhall Motors FC, kick off 7.30pm.
