Hunt for cinema robber

POLICE are hunting for a robber who held a female cashier at knife-point and escaped with a "substantial amount" of cash during a raid on the Apollo Cinema, Wallasey, on Monday night. The man, described as being white and 5ft 10" tall, was said to be wearing dark clothing and a peaked cap with ear flaps. DC Gregson, of Wallasey CID, said: "The robbery took place at about 9.25pm when the cinema was open, which showed a blatant disregard for public safety." PO armed robbery

EDWARD James Heffey, 29, of Beloe Street, Liverpool, was refused bail and remanded in custody for seven days by Wirral magistrates. He is charged with armed robbery on a Post Office security guard at Beechwood, Upton, on Friday. No value has been put on the cash stolen. Two other people thought to be involved are still at large.  more...
