Lifeboats help in rescue

HOYLAKE and New Brighton lifeboats were involved in the search for two divers reported missing. They joined other rescue services, including a helicopter from RAF Valley, searching waters around the wreck City of Brussels, north west of Liverpool Bar Lightship. The helicopter sighted the divers, in their bright dry suits, safe and just out of sight of the guard boat. New Brighton crew returned them safely to land.  more...

WIMPEY Homes is appealing against Wirral Council's decision to refuse planning permission for the building of 24 four-storey flats on land near East Court, Talbot Road, Oxton. They refused because the appearance "would fail to preserve or enhance the setting of East Court, a Grade II Listed Building" as well as being detrimental to street scene. NORTH West Water is asking parents to tell their children to stay away from fire hydrants as they are putting lives at risk. Spokesman Tony Conway said: "In warm weather people might think it's fun to turn on hydrants to cool down or play under the gushing water. Lourdes helps Claire House

CHILDREN at Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School, Moreton, have been working hard over the past school year to raise money for Claire House. Year 5 pupils collected £207 through saving their left over crisps money and organising cake sales. They also took part in a Fun Run, raising £220. One pupil, Lauren Pugh, aged 10, pictured above with headteacher Mr Sprenger, collected £310 by doing a sponsored walk while on holiday in Scotland. This outstanding effort means that the grand total contributed by the school is over £700. The money raised was presented to Mrs Olwen Jones of Claire House.  more...
