Wirral soldiers all fired up

THE valleys of South Wales are echoing to the sound of big guns fired by a pair of Wirral soldiers. Lance Corporal Brian Lloyd, 27, and Trooper John Hannigan are practising their shooting skills on the Army's tank firing ranges. The two men crew a Challenger main battle tank and are helping their regiment, the Royal Dragoon Guards, get through its annual crew test. John, although in the regiment for only 18 months, has served in Northern Ireland and Canada. He has some catching up to do with Brian, who has served in Germany, Belize, Northern Ireland, Canada, Thailand and Bosnia.  more...

Tuning in to licence evaders

TV licence dodgers beware! Wirral is the latest area under the spotlight in TV Licensing's Target Zero campaign. Launched in May, Target Zero has a single mission - to target all unlicensed addresses and drive towards zero evasion in the UK. Enquiry officers, using hi tech portable detection equipment, will be zeroing in on evaders in Wirral who still persist in using TV without a valid licence. So far, 1,074 evaders have been caught in the CH postcode.  more...

STAGE One Musical Youth Theatre - formerly Wallasey Operatic Society Youth Section - has taken a big step into the future. It is now an independent organisation and has changed its name to Stage One 2000. And its first major production will be performed at the Floral Pavilion, New Brighton, from February 24-26.
