Charity concert

YOUNGSTERS from Prenton Junior School, Birkenhead, struck all the right notes when they took part in a brand new event - a musical Eisteddford - at Wallasey Town Hall in support of Claire House Children's Hospice. Seven other junior schools from Wirral took part - Millfield Primary, Eastham, Christ the King RC Aided, Bromborough, New Brighton Primary, Arrowe Hill Primary, Birkenhead, Lingham Primary, Moreton, and Egremont Primary, Wallasey. Prenton Junior won a £100 cheque donated by Darlington's Transport and all participating schools received 25 vouchers donated by Rushworths of Liverpool.  more...

Putting children in the picture

WELL-KNOWN local photographer Colin Bermingham has raised a total of £700 to help a children's charity. Colin, who lives in Bebington and is chairman of the newly formed Friends of Mayer Hall group, donated the money to Tesco's charity fund, which this year is in aid of the National Children's Homes Action For Children Appeal. Our picture shows him signing the giant-sized cheque before presenting it to Sarah Hills, Customer Services, at Tesco Heswall. Colin raised the money by offering family portraits at a special price.  more...

WING walking radio presenter Roger Summerskill, who lives in Wallasey, was brought down to earth with a bump with his latest venture to raise money for the RNLI . . . . washing cars! Roger, one of the breakfast programme presenters on BBC Radio Merseyside, accepted the 'chamois challenge' thrown down by Uncle Sam's hand car wash in Breck Road, Wallasey. "Like most people, I always thought washing a car was just that - washing a car. Wrong! There were cloths for this and cloths for that . . . . they even knotted the corner of one of them so I knew which part of the car I had to use it on!" Uncle Sam's is still boosting the money raised with customers being asked to put donations into the lifeboat collection box.  more...

Four out of four ain't bad

MEMBERS of the successful Wirral-based TAGB Tae kwon-Do clubs are celebrating after four of instructor Richard Saunders' teams all took first placings in the National Team Championship competition in Barnsley. Success just keeps growing and growing for Richard Saunders Schools of Tae kwon-Do on Bebington, Eastham, Pensby and Wallasey. The club is training hard for forthcoming events including the Welsh Closed, British and Inter club competition, held in Eastham on November 20.
